Overview

Is it possible to grab thousands of visitors with a website that launched almost 3 weeks ago? We made it possible. We acquired 2K traffic without any backlinks and without paid marketing.

Our strategy was very simple: the right niche selection, proper keyword research, and regular content publishing. In this case study, I will show you how we generated that traffic in such a short time, so you can follow the same method and build your own successful website.

A Simple Yet Effective SEO Strategy to Pull Traffic Organically

Let me tell you one thing before the strategy: it is a very simple method. You don’t need to be a veteran SEO to achieve this kind of result. Keep reading till the end and start your own journey as an SEO guy.

1Accurate niche selection

The first and foremost challenge was to pick the right niche. Our intention from the beginning was to gain heavy traffic without delay, so we explored several types of niches. From tech to fashion, we didn’t leave a single stone unturned.

Then I found one niche with more traffic potential than we expected. The easter egg: every site on the first page of the SERPs in this niche had a very low DR, mostly around 5-35 according to Ahrefs.

We analyzed their site age and content quality. No one was too old to become the king of the niche, and the content quality was easily beatable for our writers. That’s why we decided to work on this niche.

2Making a plain & responsive website

After confirming the niche, we pushed our in-house developer to create a very minimalistic website using any CMS he wished. We went for a CMS rather than custom code for three reasons:

Content beats layout in this niche
The target audience preferred quality content over mind-blowing layouts or features.
Page designs were easy to fit
Designs could be created to fit the niche without huge effort. Even our competitors went for WordPress mostly.
Custom code costs time
A custom site would take a lot of time, and we couldn’t waste valuable time meaninglessly.

The site was ready to launch within 4 working days. Meanwhile, we picked a domain name that represented both the niche and uniqueness. I was very lucky to find a 7-character domain name ending in .com. All that effort in the domain hunt had two reasons:

Why the domain mattered
A domain that resembles the niche, has fewer characters, and ends in .com is very easy for Google to pick up and rank.
Short, catchy domains are easy to remember, which increases repeat and dedicated visitors.

3Effective keyword research

We didn’t wait for the website to start researching keywords. My SEO teammate began working on keywords and content strategy right after niche selection.

Keyword research strategy in Ahrefs, SEMrush and Surfer

First, we tried to understand who our target audience was. Using tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Surfer, we figured out the most in-demand keywords and went through the top SERP pages for each. The SEO team was trying to learn:

What we were looking for
What was the motive (intent) of our possible visitors
Which type of content they preferred most
Which related searches surrounded those keywords

Then we listed every type of keyword in the niche and selected only those with higher traffic potential and lower difficulty (KD). We considered search volume (SV) sometimes, but not always, since there’s always a chance you acquire more traffic than the SV suggests.

4Regular article publishing

After spending 10 days on niche picking, web design, and keyword research, it was time to create and publish content regularly. I am blessed with some skilled content writers, and they aligned with the SEO team for flawless content mapping.

Say the niche had 3 main topics: A, B, and C, each with at least 10-20 sub-topics. For a proper content strategy, we decided to cover everything under A first. The writers produced quality, high-value content for the main topic, then covered all of its subtopics. They started a new topic or category only when the previous one was completely finished through valuable words.

The on-page SEO team followed the same strategy. No matter how many articles were stacked up, they were published in order, covering topics gradually. That also helped us build solid interlinking between the pages.

“The website got new articles every day. There was no break. It gave a positive signal to Google.”

Googlebot saw that we were able to give visitors new resources daily, and treated the site accordingly.

5Monitor daily

My job didn’t end with content publishing. I kept observing the growth and impressions of every page. If some pages took time to index, we figured out the reason and avoided it later. We also kept a close eye on competitors so we could compete well.

Finally, An Outstanding Result

After around 10 days of regular content publishing, 20 days in total from launch, here is where the site stood:

Judging by the data and the possibilities, I think the site will hit 100K search traffic after 6 months. We can say the project was a success long before we imagined it.
