Your Category Pages Have No Links and No Rankings? Work With an Ecommerce Link Building Consultant

Ecommerce link building is the work of earning editorial backlinks to the collection, category and product pages that generate sales. It uses relevance-first prospecting, manual outreach, anchor text planning, digital PR and internal link architecture. The most common problem is links pointing to the blog while category and product pages get none.

I earn editorial backlinks to the collection, category and product pages that actually generate sales. Relevance-first prospecting, manual outreach, anchor text planning, digital PR and internal link architecture. No marketplace placements, no PBNs, no bulk packages. Just me.

● Consultant A: An independent ecommerce link building consultant. Best for businesses that want hands-on help from one specialist.

● Agency B: A larger agency that offers ecommerce link building as part of a wider marketing service. Best for businesses that want a bigger team and ongoing marketing support.

Ecommerce Link Building Services

Links to your blog don't sell products. Links to your money pages do.

Most ecommerce link building points at the homepage or a blog post nobody buys from, while the collection and product pages that carry revenue sit with almost no authority. Here's where a link building consultant actually moves the needle.

🎯

Revenue Page Link Targeting

Links aimed at collection, category and product pages, not just the homepage. The pages that rank for buying terms are the pages that need the authority.

🔍

Relevance-First Prospecting

Topical fit before domain rating. A mid-authority site in your exact category passes more value than a high-DR general blog that has never mentioned your product type.

✉

Manual Outreach

Every email written for the person receiving it. No automated sequences, no spun templates, no mass sends that burn your domain reputation for a 0.4% reply rate.

🧭

Anchor Text Planning

A deliberate anchor ratio across brand, partial match, exact match and naked URLs, mapped page by page so the profile stays natural as volume grows.

📰

Digital PR & Linkable Assets

Original data, buying guides and story-led campaigns that journalists cover on their own. The links competitors cannot simply buy a copy of.

🔗

Internal Link Architecture

External authority is wasted if it stops at the page that earned it. I route equity through category and product pages so every new link lifts more than one URL.

End-to-End Services

End-to-End Ecommerce Link Building

Work with a link building consultant who doesn't just hand you a spreadsheet of placements. I audit the profile, pick the targets, write and send every email myself, and report on the rankings and revenue those links moved, or I plug into your existing team where you need the lift.

Backlink Audit & Gap Analysis 1 / 5
Currently viewing

I find out which pages are starved and which links are hurting you.

A full profile review across your store and your top five competitors: where their links point, which collection and product pages outrank yours on authority alone, what toxic or paid placements are sitting in your history, and how your anchor ratio compares. You leave with a target list ranked by revenue impact.

What you get
✓ Full backlink profile & toxicity review
✓ Competitor link gap on money pages
✓ Anchor text ratio diagnosis
✓ Target page list ranked by revenue

Relevance beats domain rating every time.

A mid-authority site that already writes about your product category passes more value than a DR80 general blog that has never mentioned it. I prospect on topical fit, real traffic and genuine editorial standards, then vet every domain by hand before a single email goes out.

What you get
✓ Topical relevance scoring per domain
✓ Real organic traffic verification
✓ Link-farm and PBN screening
✓ Named contact for every prospect
Currently viewing

Every email written for the person reading it.

No automated sequences, no spun templates, no mass sends that burn your domain reputation for a fraction of a percent reply rate. I pitch something the editor actually wants to publish, negotiate placement and anchor, then confirm the link is live, followed, and in the body of the page.

What you get
✓ Hand-written pitches, no automation
✓ Placement and anchor negotiated
✓ Live, followed, in-content verification
✓ Monthly report of every URL earned

Build the thing journalists want to link to.

Original data from your own sales, buying guides that beat every existing result, and story-led campaigns that get picked up on their own merit. These are the links a competitor cannot buy a copy of, and they keep earning coverage long after the campaign ends.

What you get
✓ Original data studies from your numbers
✓ Linkable buying guides and tools
✓ Journalist and editor outreach
✓ Coverage tracking and follow-up pitching

Make every link lift more than one page.

External authority is wasted if it stops at the page that earned it. I plan the anchor ratio across brand, partial, exact and naked so the profile stays natural as volume grows, then route equity through collection and product pages so one placement moves a whole cluster.

What you get
✓ Anchor ratio mapped page by page
✓ Collection to product equity routing
✓ Orphan and dead-end page cleanup
✓ Faceted navigation crawl control

Ecommerce platforms I build links for

Every platform changes where a link can land: how collection URLs are structured, what the CMS lets you publish as a linkable asset, and how internal links route equity to the pages that sell.

How We Work Together

My Ecommerce Link Building Process

Four steps. Predictable cadence. You always know which pages are being worked, what has been pitched, and which links went live this month.

Step 01 · Week 1

Audit & Target Mapping

I review your full backlink profile alongside your top five competitors on the terms that make you money. Which collection and product pages are outranked on authority alone, what toxic or bought placements sit in your history, how your anchor ratio compares, and which pages carry the most revenue per ranking position. You walk out of week one with a target page list ordered by what a link is actually worth.

01
Backlink Audit and Target Mapping
Prospecting and Link Strategy
02
Step 02 · Week 2

Prospecting & Link Strategy

A prospect list built on topical relevance, real organic traffic and genuine editorial standards, every domain vetted by hand. Alongside it, the anchor text plan mapped page by page, the linkable assets worth building, and the monthly placement target. A clear sequence tied to specific URLs, not a vague promise of ten links a month.

Step 03 · Month 1–3

Outreach & Placement

I write and send every pitch myself, negotiate placement and anchor, and verify each link is live, followed and inside the body of the page rather than a footer or author bio. Digital PR campaigns run alongside so coverage keeps arriving without a pitch. Each month you get the full list of URLs earned, what they cost, and which target page they point at.

03
Outreach and Placement
Revenue Tracking and Scaling
04
Step 04 · Month 4+

Revenue Tracking & Scaling

Link building is measured in rankings and revenue on the target pages, not in link counts. I track position movement per URL, organic revenue by collection, referring domain growth against competitors, and which link types moved the needle. We put budget behind the placements that worked and stop the ones that did nothing.

Client's Feedback

Real feedback from the store owners, ecommerce managers, and marketing directors I've worked with. These are the results they saw and what working together actually looks like.

FAQ

FAQs about ecommerce link building

No marketing fluff. These are the real objections I hear every day, and my honest answers.

What is ecommerce link building, and why does my store need it?

▼
Ecommerce link building is the work of earning editorial backlinks to the pages that generate sales: collection, category and product URLs, not just the homepage and blog. Your store needs it because on commercial terms, authority is usually the deciding factor between two similar product pages. Content and technical work get you eligible to rank. Links are what decide which eligible store wins.

Why point links at category pages instead of blog posts?

▼
Because category and collection pages are the ones that rank for buying terms and convert. A blog post can earn links more easily, which is why most agencies default to it, but the equity stops there unless your internal linking routes it onward. I target money pages directly where the pitch allows, and use internal link architecture to push the rest of the value where it belongs.

Do you buy links or use a marketplace?

▼
No. Every placement comes from manual outreach to a real editor or site owner, and I turn down sites that sell links openly, run PBNs, or have no organic traffic behind the domain rating. Bought links are the fastest way to a manual action, and the cheapest packages are almost always the ones that eventually cost you a recovery project.

How do you pick which sites to approach?

▼
Topical relevance first, then real organic traffic, then editorial standards, and only then domain rating. A mid-authority site that genuinely covers your product category passes more value than a high-DR general blog that has never written about it. Every prospect is vetted by hand and screened for link farms and PBN footprints before an email goes out.

How many links will I get each month?

▼
It depends on category, budget and how link-worthy the target pages are, and I would be cautious about anyone quoting a fixed number before seeing your site. Manual outreach produces fewer links than bulk packages and each one is worth considerably more. I set a realistic monthly target after the audit and report every URL earned against it.

How long before link building moves my rankings?

▼
Individual links usually take four to twelve weeks to show effect after they are indexed. On lower-competition category terms you can see movement inside the first couple of months. Competitive head terms are a six to twelve month build. Digital PR campaigns are the exception: a campaign that gets picked up can move things within weeks.

What is digital PR and do I need it?

▼
Digital PR earns coverage and links by giving journalists something genuinely worth writing about: original data from your own sales, a survey, a tool, or a story with a hook. It is worth it when you need links a competitor cannot buy a copy of, or when your category has few obvious outreach targets. It is not a replacement for steady relevance-based outreach, it works alongside it.

What about anchor text? Can over-optimising get me penalised?

▼
Yes, and it is one of the most common problems I find in audits. A profile stacked with exact-match commercial anchors looks manufactured. I map the ratio across brand, partial match, exact match and naked URL page by page, and keep exact match a small minority so the profile still looks natural as volume grows.

I already have a lot of links. Can you fix a bad profile?

▼
Often, yes. That starts with identifying what is actually harming you rather than disavowing everything that looks unfamiliar, which does more damage than good. We clean up genuinely toxic placements, fix anchor imbalance, then build relevant links to dilute the old profile. If there is a manual action, that is a separate recovery process and I will tell you honestly how long it is likely to take.

How much does an ecommerce link building consultant cost?

▼
It depends on scope: a one-time backlink audit, a fixed-scope campaign, or an ongoing monthly retainer. Manual outreach costs more per link than a marketplace and returns considerably more, so I scope every engagement on a discovery call and price against the revenue the target pages carry.
